Teaching Sam and Scout

February 2015 Favorites

Well hello there!  Did you think I’d jumped ship over here?!? Sorry for the blog silence this week… Between multiple snow storms (we just missed our seventh day of school in two weeks yesterday) and being very pregnant (37 weeks tomorrow!), I’m a little off my game these days… Hopefully I’ll find my blogging mojo again soon; but, in the meantime, it’s the end of February (already?!?) so Heather and I are sharing a few of our favorites from this month…

1. Chick-fil-A Iced Coffee (for free!)  If you haven’t been getting free coffee at Chick-fil-A this month, you are MISSING OUT!! Their marketing team really is genius because, prior to this, I probably wouldn’t have thought to make a Chick-fil-A run for coffee (I’m quite happy with my lemonade or Diet Coke); but, now that I’ve tried their new speciality-grade THRIVE Farmer’s coffee (many, many times) for free, I will definitely have them on my radar for those “must have” afternoon pick-me-ups.  Two times this month I even took Sam to play in the play place just so we could get out of the house and I could drink coffee in peace – it was blissful, let me tell you! I especially like the iced vanilla variety, but a piping hot cup of decaf has hit the spot on many an afternoon too. YUM.  (There’s still time… Go get yourself one today!)

2. Bobeau One-Button Fleece Wrap Cardigan.  I’ve already talked about it a hundred times, but I just can’t get enough of this cozy blanket cardigan.  I had seen lots of bloggers rave about it for months, but I finally took the plunge myself when it was marked down to less than $40.00 at Nordstrom recently.  (It’s still on sale – RUN, don’t walk.) It is SO comfy, and – I think – very flattering (even on my very pregnant body).  I have it in the Coral Spice (shown above), but it comes in LOTS of different colors and patterns and even in Plus Size.  This probably won’t be the last one I buy…

3. Iggy Peck, Architect and Rosie Revere, Engineer.  My husband actually discovered these cute children’s books by Andrea Beaty a few weeks ago on a Barnes & Noble trip with Sam, and they have quickly become favorites at our house.  I love the quirky illustrations, the rhyming style, and – most importantly – the awesome message for kids about taking risks and pursing your passions even if they make you different.  As a bonus, Sam is a big fan too! 🙂

And, really, that’ it… February has been a month of snow days, pajamas, and nesting for me.  I can’t believe that next month at this time I might be sharing my favorite things with a NEWBORN!

One other favorite that I’ve blogged about often (and Heather shared today) is the She Reads Truth daily devotion.  I’ve been doing their Bible studies for a while now and love how simple – but really good – they are AND how easy they are to access on their website (free) or through an app on my phone (the app itself is free and each plan is approximately $3.)  Every day there is a scripture reading (sometimes several) and an accompanying devotion written by one of their awesome contributors.  There is also an area for members of the community (that’s us) to comment and discuss what they read/learn each day if they want to and a pretty graphic to save on your phone, share on social media, etc. Everything is super streamlined, visually appealing, and – honestly – just the perfect way to start my mornings. The current plan is focused on Lent, and it is SO good.

From now until Sunday, She Reads Truth is offering our blog readers 15% off of any purchase at ShopSheReadsTruth.com – including scripture cards, study packs, and beautiful prints.  Just add items to your cart and enter the code NELSEN at checkout!

This is the verse I’ve been memorizing this week  with the SRT Lent Devotion, and I have this image set as my iPhone home screen to help me stay focused. It is also for sale as an 8×10 print in the shop!

Happy Friday!
