Teaching Sam and Scout

Ginger Tees

While we’re on the subject of t-shirts…

When Sam was younger, I swore I would never dress him in “graphic tees.” I just had these horrible images of t-shirts with Thomas the Tank Engine and Woody from Toy Story, and little sayings like “Handsome Like Daddy” (which is true, but, nonetheless, a little tacky, right?) and I just couldn’t handle it.  Not my kid.

Then, a miraculous thing happened – real life – and I (sort-of) changed my mind.  (This tends to be a very common theme in my parenting journey thus far.  My strong opinions become quite stupid when the time comes to actually “enforce” them.)

Sam is now a wild three year old.  He plays hard.  He gets dirty. He sweats like a man.  He spills at least one something at every single meal. I need clothes for him that can be stripped off and thrown in the washing machine in a flash.  And, let’s just face it, he would look like a total goober if I made him wear jon-jons and rompers every day still.

We still don’t do a lot of “character” clothes (although, the boy loves him some dinosaur tees); but, these days, I’m all about cute t-shirts and shorts for my boy.

Enter @Gingertees.

Recently, my friend Celeste (who has the most stylish little boy I know) introduced me to a new t-shirt shop on Instagram called @GingerTees…  Amy, who’s name isn’t “Ginger” (she has a red-headed little man), sells ADORABLE hand-painted t-shirts for kids (and adults) at SUPER great prices.  When I first visited her Instagram shop, I immediately needed one of every style for Sam. 😉

I mean, would you look at these?!? They are, seriously, like little works of art… SUCH a step-up from your standard “graphic tee.”

When I started planning Sam’s birthday party and wanted a custom firetruck shirt for him, I knew JUST who to contact.  I reached out to Amy and, not only was she so friendly and easy to work with, but she got to work RIGHT AWAY learning to paint firetrucks and made Sam the most perfect shirt ever! (You may remember it from his party pics here.)

That shirt, again, that was custom done for Sam and hand-painted on both sides cost me just $14.00 shipped.

As a bonus, Amy also included two of her classic  #iheartmycity shirts for us to try out, and – let me just say – we LOVE them!!!

Here’s Sam modeling his Virginia shirt for the trip home from the beach last weekend…

And, here are a few other examples from the shop…

*We also have a black shirt with a white United States on it that Sam loves.  Taking pictures is a real chore these days though! 😉

This is going to sound totally dorky, but I’ve actually used these shirts to teach Sam where we live – city and state – which is something I had never really talked to him about before.  He gets so excited to wear his “Virginia” shirt and point out his home.

Amy can do any size, color combination, etc. AND put a heart anywhere you want it.  (Wouldn’t it be so cute to have a shirt with hearts where both sets of grandparents live?!? Or best friends?!)

Here’s a little bio from Amy:

I am 28 years old, married, and have one son age 20m – little ginger boy! I am a stay at home mom and wife, and family is everything to me!! I love to be creative and artistic, I also love fashion, so its natural I paired the two together! I started @gingertees in January of this year. I had made my son some shirts in the past, and thought I could definitely see these tees as something people would be proud of, proud to represent their USA, state, and city! So I came up with some inventory, and went in full throttle! I love the IG community and if it wasn’t for this crazy time in social media history, I wouldn’t have made it. IG has forever changed shopping! I love it! I adore my home town so its fitting to put it on a tee, and call them #iheartmycity tees! I love that customers personalize them to have hearts where ever loved ones might be all over! My mom has one with hearts all over the USA for her kids and grandkids!! So naturally, after my little ginger boy and these tees, I came up with gingertees:) and the three dots at the bottom represent my son, my husband, and myself!

*I was not compensated for this post.  I found @Gingertees and ordered/paid for Sam’s birthday shirt completely on my own.  I DID receive two additional shirts, for free, to review. 🙂
