Nora’s Birth Announcement & How We Chose Her Name

Hello there! Just popping in to share Nora’s birth announcement (only 7 weeks after her birth – ha) and a little about how we chose her name this morning…

Our friend Howard took the photo when Nora was about two weeks old (I can’t believe how much she has grown and changed already) and the design is from VistaPrint. Nora’s sweet little bow was a gift from Shared Joy.
As for how we chose her name…

I wanted a name that wasn’t too long (I’ve grown up never being able to fit my whole name in the space provided), went well with Sam, and had some significance in its origin/meaning/etc. Nora fit the bill, and Jeff and I both liked it (which is a miracle in itself).  It is a traditional Irish name (which is a tribute to my dad’s family and perfect for our little red head) and means “light.”  Nora has already been such a light in our family, and my prayer for her as she grows is that she would be a light in the world.

Her middle name, Kent, was my Poppy‘s name.  We actually decided pretty much right away that we would give this baby the middle name Kent (whether it was a boy or a girl) in his memory.  Most of you know this, but he and I were VERY close and he passed away last March.  As soon as I knew I was pregnant and that my due date would be in March, I thought of this baby as a little gift from Poppy, so it seemed fitting to give her a part of his name.   He would have been SO proud.

At home, we just call her Nora, but I love Nora Kent together too. I guess she can decide one day if she wants a double name or not.  (Sam actually called her “Nora Kent” all throughout my pregnancy, and I was really hoping it would stick, but it really hasn’t.) She’s the perfect Nora and the perfect little addition to our family!

Have a great Tuesday!
